Families of monkeys inhabit this sacred nutmeg forest and fearlessly wander the temple and village. It does not pay to hide peanuts in your pocket as these monkey are not shy, and won't think twice about jumping on your shoulders so as to get a closer look. Trees towering 30-meters high, not native to Bali and whose presence has never been explained, contribute to the mystery and holiness of Sangeh.
TANAH LOT
Carved out of the landscape by tides, wind and rain, the huge offshore sentinel rock is the site of a picturesque sea temple. There is a bridge connecting the mainland, and below the water line are caves which shelter large sea-snakes, the guardians of the temple.
NEGARA
Except for the coastal strip on land, most of this district is mountainous with impenetrable jungle said to harbor strange animals and undiscovered ancient cities. This city is famous for its thrilling bull races, held after the rice has been harvested between July and October each year. A pair of bulls with painted horns and banners flying, pulls a small cart manned by a precariously balanced jockey over a two-km course.
KLUNGKUNG
An old royal culture center for music, drama, fine arts and the seat of power which ruled Bali for more than 300 years. Most of the Balinese nobility draws its descent from the royal family that settled here, and even today the Raja Klungkung is regarded as the most exalted prince among the aristocracy. Kamasan, 2-km south, is the home of the classical wayang painting. Klungkung s royal court of justice, which dates back to the 18th Century, contains the finest example of these paintings on its ceiling.
