TABANAN

Tabanan Rice Field
As yet little known on the tourist map, Tabanan has a lot of fascinating spots in its vicinity. Walk through the green paddy fields and villages that surround this town. Only 11 Km from the village to the north, beside a rushing stony stream is a hot mineral spring with the small shrine that has been built to enjoy the medicinal waters. Visit a nearby village with its many earth-ware workshops producing ceramic art, and another with a museum which houses exhibits on the history and development of the unique Subak irrigation committees, farming implements, etc. Continue south to one of Bali’s largest cattle markets.

JATILUWIH

Approximately 20 km from Tabanan the road climbs up high into the hills to this small village, 850 meters above sea level. The view here is one of the finest imaginable. Terraced rice fields stretch in endless contour over hills and valleys as far as the eye can see.

KERAMBITAN

This village was once an extension of the ruling Raja ‘s court, and is still a culture stronghold, with music groups maintaining ancient customs of music and dancing, using unique bamboo instruments. Check with your travel agent for a special invitation to visit the Royal Home.

MT. BATUKARU

A mountain sanctuary, known locally as the “Coconut Shell Mountain “, and state temple built to honor mountains and lakes. From Tabanan, take the rough road up the southern slope leading to the temple near the 2275-meter peak. This remote, seven-tiered pagoda is similar in shape to a Thai stupa and lies in a solitary clearing with gigantic uninhabited forests all around it, its shrines surrounded by a pond. These uplands have sublime landscapes, with green moss everywhere. Nearby is a scared hot spring bubbling up from a riverbank.
