Famous for its painters community, Ubud has a magic of its own, beautiful surroundings and gracious way of life. The role of art, especially fine art, is highly conspicuous in Balinese culture as well as in their economic life. In almost every house you can see many art forms, ranging from paintings to carving / sculpture, from architecture to decorative art. Each art form has a particular style depending on the artist who made it. The Ubud style of wood carving is a small rounded abstract-like style with a folkloric theme. This style has developed into a rather magical and religious style. The woodcarving in Ubud is not merely producing a statue, but also carrying on a tradition. They use these to decorate their traditional houses as well as their temples. Thus the Ubud style carving functions as an integral part of their traditional architecture.
